Silverdale in Haying wood, Staffordshire is where we have gone to spend the day. The trip down was marked by remnants of the trip on New Years Day in the Peak District. Water from the puddles had swamped the cabins air in-take which sits just below the windscreen. The effect this caused on the car was interesting to say the least.
With the heater turned up full to keep us warm the water stuck in the ventillation system quickly started coming out the vents as steam. Naturally it condensed on the windscreen and made it next to impossible to see. The video gives you an idea of the problem. Filmed later in the day after I have moved the vent selector from the windscreen to dashboard to help dry the system out. After an hour or so we gave up and turned the heater off, the screen cleared pretty quickly. Throughout the day I spent any spare moments with the heaters on trying to dry it out.
Now with the knowledge that we would be driving around in a potential sauna all day we could get down to the important part; getting covered in mud, and Silverdale did not disapoint.
Our first visit to Silverdale, another site about an hour from home, again one we had not been too before. The site is simply on the side of a hill. Part, or all, I'm not sure which, is an old slag heap. The site features everything you could want. I must mention its not a place for standard vehicles, once you leave the sedate perimeter track it quickly turns to a Slip N' Slide for 4x4s. Some tracks were just too slippy to get along and we had to back out a few times.
Silverdale is a great site. Its enclosed in Haying Woods, and is littered with mudholes, steep inclines, great drops, and the occasional failed Land Rover. Its a good sized playground and it has entered into our favourites list. We shall return, and soon too.
